Historical Temperaments For musicians interested in paying period music with all the color and flavor the original composers intended, tuning temperaments other than 12 Tone Equal Temperament, also known as 12TET or Equal Temperament or just ET for short, will more accurately convey the emotion of what we believe the maestros intended their works to project. The story of how various western tunings were first arrived upon for ancient string instruments, then applied to early keyboard instruments such as organs and harpsichords and the subsequent evolution to the modern and universally accepted ET, is a deeply involved and colorful one indeed. Much research has been done and a vast resource is available to piano tuners desiring to duplicate historic or period tunings for their customers. If you are interested in using a temperament other that the universally accepted ET, I will be happy to provide you with a tuning with the temperament to suit your period music preference.
